Et le cœur dans l'âme, après quelques siècles d’hésitation, la mer s’en va, fière d’y laisser son empreinte de dunes, de prés salés et de sable.

Et que dès lors agisse le magnétisme du Zoute !

Peintres et écrivains sont les premiers à être attirés par la magie de ce paysage flamand. Leurs émotions se retrouvent dans leurs œuvres. Belges, Anglais, Français, Hollandais, se réservent dans cette ambiance sauvage leurs plus belles promenades. Les joues marquées par le vent du littoral, les premiers fanatiques retrouvent avec réconfort les tartines de cramique et les gaufres de Moeder Siska. Ensuite arrive le train à Heyst, puis le tramway jusqu’à Enocke-sur-mer, les premiers hôtels, les premières balles de golf et le changement de siècle.

Et qu’entrent en scène les visionnaires - propriétaire, urbaniste et architecte de golf - acteurs géniaux de ce début de 20e siècle. Et quel siècle !

Malgré les cicatrices de l'histoire, le Zoute, traditionnellement anticonformiste, continue de donner du plaisir à ceux qui viennent y trouver ce qu'ils y cherchent : un écrin de quiétude dans un environnement de qualité. Et que vive la légende du Zoute et tous les amoureux de la petite balle blanche qui depuis cent ans y swinguent de plaisir !


En schoorvoetend, na enkele eeuwen van aarzeling, trok de zee weg, toch trots op wat ze achterliet, duinen, schorren en zand.

Dat de aantrekkingskracht van het Zoute voor eeuwig mag bestaan! Schilders en schrijvers waren de eersten die aangetrokken werden door de magie van het Vlaamse landschap. Hun emoties waren terug te vinden in hun werk. Belgen, Engelsen, Fransen, Nederlanders, maakten de mooiste wandelingen in deze ongerepte natuur. Hun wangen waren blozend van de zeewind, de eerste fanatiekelingen genoten genoeglijk de boterhammen van kramiek en de wafels van Moeder Siska. Dan komt de trein tot Heist. en de tram tot Knokke-aan-zee, de eerste hotels, de eerste golfballen, en de eeuwwisseling.

Daarna komen de visionairen -eigenaar, urbanist en golfarchitect-ten tonele, de geniale acteurs van dit begin van de 20ste eeuw. En w at voor eeuw!

Ondanks de littekens van de geschiedenis, gaat het Zoute dat traditiegetrouw nonconformistiseh is, door met het schenken van plezier aan zijn bezoekers. W ie er naai’ toekomt vindt een vreedzame haven in een prachtige omgeving. Dat de legende van het Zoute maar lang mag blijven bestaan, evenals de fans van het kleine witte balletje die er al honderd jaar lang “swingen van plezier”.


Reluctantly over centuries of hesitation, the sea withdrew proudly leaving in its wake dunes, salty marshes and sand. May the allure of Zoute remain forever!

Artists and writers were the first to feel themselves drawn by the magic of the Flemish landscape. Their emotions are mirrored in their work. The Belgians, the English, the French and the Dutch enjoyed the most beautiful walks in this unspoilt natural environment, their cheeks rosy from the sea breeze. The first enthusiasts among them relished with delight the sandwiches of “kramiek” and wadies at Mother Siska’s. Then the railway came to Heist, and the tram to Knokke-aan-Zee, follow ed by the first hotels, the first golf balls, and the turn of the century.

Thereafter the visionaries - owner, urbanist and golf architect - entered upon the scene. They were the genial actors of the early twentieth century. And what a century!

In spite of the scars left by history. Zoute continues in its non-conformist tradition, of providing its visitors with pleasure. Who visits it finds a peaceful haven in a beautiful setting. May the legend of Zoute truly live on and also fans of the little white ball who have been “swinging with pleasure” for the past 100 years.
